JUNIOR SECTION 2009.
 
There has been an increase in Junior Membership at Glencorse with a higher number of Juniors playing over the summer months. Many of our Junior players have cut their handicaps considerably and the future is looking bright as our re-building phase continues, with a number of new competitions instigated during the year.
 
Our Boys Champion for 2009 was Steve Morton and our Girls Champion was Heather Laing.
 
A considerable number of our Juniors played in Junior Open events throughout the summer. A noteworthy achievement was the qualification of Josh Anderson, Stewart Goodfellow and Heather Laing for the Dunfermline Building Society Tournament Final. They played through two qualifying rounds and represented the club at Gleneagles in the final where all achieved excellent placings.
 
Apart from our Junior League team matches a number of friendly games were played, with 21 juniors (including 3 Junior girls) representing Glencorse in team matches this year.
 
Summer coaching by our professional Cliffe Jones proved a success and coaching will be continued over the winter.
 
A free bus was run to the first day of the Open Championship at Turnberry where our junior members were allowed free entry. This was a great day out and an inspirational one for our young golfers and it is our intention to do the same again next year at St Andrews.
 
All of this year’s activities would not have been possible without the initiative and commitment of club professional Cliffe Jones, Club Captain Colin Pryde and his committee. Special thanks go to our club members who have participated in, and donated money towards our fundraising activities earlier in the year. Our friendly football match at Penicuik Athletic Ground was a real fun night when an adult team of players older than thirty played against the Junior Section who were allowed to include under thirties in their team. All our greenkeepers turned out for the night with the vast majority playing for the junior section. The youngsters triumphed 3-2 with a late winning goal from young Sean Stewart. However next year will be different with a new coach being lined up for the ' old team'.
 
Our main sponsor Laurie Doonan from The Mews Garage, Edinburgh has again generously provided our team jumpers and t-shirts. Many people have remarked on how smart our Junior Team has been turned out during matches.
 
Also thanks to the many individuals who have donated monies: Thank you to the Penicuik Rotary Club, Past Captains, William Lumsden, Graham Porteous, Tom Greig, Peter Carde and Michael Grieve.
 
It is also noted that each junior team who visited Glencorse G.C have commented on the excellent meals provided by Amy and Lorna. They really did us proud.
 
To all the above people and organisations thank you for making Glencorse G.C such a friendly and supportive environment for young people playing golf.
